Food, Shelter and a Future

Client: Urban Ministries Durham

About the Project

Urban Ministries of Durham is the largest public shelter in Durham, N.C. and serves some 6,000 people each year who are experiencing homelessness, hunger or need. They provide three hot meals a day to anyone who wants them as well as shelter, clothing and other supportive services. Their motto is, "Food, Shelter and a Future," and they are often the last stop preventing someone from living on the street.

After seeing a video we made for another client, Urban Ministries approached us about making a video to show at their annual winter fundraising luncheon. After some creative brainstorming, we proposed to use their motto, "Food, Shelter and a Future" as a a template for the video. We also wanted to highlight success stories of residents that stayed at Urban Ministries, but had since moved into independent housing. As luck would have it, former UMD residents Linda and Arnaldo Rios were moving into their first apartment together as a married couple after living in shared housing for six years. They were gracious enough to allow us to film their move-in and share some of their story.
